Sometimes your dog isn't quite ready for off-lead freedom, but they definitely want more than six feet of lead. That's where the Ruffwear Rogue Long Line comes in.

At 6.1 metres (20ft) long, it gives your dog plenty of room to sniff, explore and practise their recall while keeping them safely connected to you. It's particularly useful for recall training, loose-lead training, decompression walks, fieldwork and giving dogs a little more freedom in places where off-lead isn't an option.

The Rogue is handle-free, so rather than having a loop at the end that catches on brambles, branches and anything else your dog manages to find, the line can simply trail behind them. That makes it especially useful for training and allowing your dog to move naturally without constantly getting tangled up.

Our Be More Bob tip: A long line works best in a reasonably open space where your dog can explore without the line getting caught around trees, posts or other people. And remember that a long line can build up some serious momentum when an enthusiastic dog reaches the end of it – so comfortable, secure equipment and sensible handling are important.
